Hosting a Safe Holiday Party:
Tips from Your Tampa Car Accident Lawyer
With the beautiful weather we enjoy
all year long in the Tampa, Florida region, it seems like
there's always a reason to celebrate something. From the
official winter holiday season to New Year's Eve to spring
picnics and summer beach parties, every season brings
us an opportunity to gather together, stuff ourselves
with good food, and partake in a few thirst-quenchers.
Unfortunately, anytime there's a celebration, the danger
of drunk driving is a possibility, as is a terrible car
accident causing injuries to all involved.
Whether you're tempted to take in too
much eggnog at a Tampa holiday party, drink beer while
fishing off a Clearwater pier, or partake in some patriotic
punch on the 4th of July in St Petersburg, there are many
things you and your fellow party-goers can do to keep
your joyous time joyful and resist the sorrow of an automobile
accident.
Tampa car accident
lawyer Dale Appell, P.A. offers these suggestions
for safe parties, all year long:
- If you host a party, limit how much
you drink so that you can keep an eye on your guests.
- Invite helpers to the party who
will remain sober and help you should a problem arise
with a tipsy guest.
- Serve plenty of non-alcoholic drinks
like sodas, water, juices, and fruit punch.
- Also serve non-alcoholic cocktails.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) came out with a
lineup of non-alcoholic drinks in 2009 with the hope
that these beverages will help designated drivers remain
sober.
- Encourage guests to bring a designated
driver, or to take a taxi to your party.
- Keep plenty of cash and the phone
number for a taxi standing by.
- Another alternative for rides home
include hiring a limousine service for the evening.
- Be a bartender or hire one. This
can help control how much guests drink.
- Avoid the temptation to push drinks
on anyone. People can have a great time without drinking.
- Serve food, but try not to serve
things that will make people thirstier such as salty
or overly sweet foods.
- Stop serving alcohol at least an
hour before the party ends.
- Make preparations for intoxicated
guests to spend the night at your home. Have blankets,
sleeping bags, and pillows ready.
- If you don't have room at home for
intoxicated guests, offer to put them up at a local
hotel.
We hope that our fellow residents throughout
the Tampa, Florida area will make safety a top priority
all year long by never drinking and driving—and by helping
their friends to avoid drunk driving, too. No matter how
fun a party is, no amount of revelry is worth the horror
of a car accident resulting in serious injuries or worse
yet, death.
